Troopers Week is almost here!
Posted by: j-me on May 20, 2009 at 2:14AM EST

The horns are polished, the uniforms and flags are ready. The Troopers are coming!

On May 22, 2009, the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps will begin spring training!

Spring training is an intense time. The Corps days will be filled with rehearsals.  Each day begins at 7:00 am with a full breakfast of hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, or pancakes, and fruit juice and water.  All meals are prepared by trained and certified cooks to nutritional specifications set forth by the governing body of Drum Corps, Drum Corps International.

At 8:00 am the Corps begin the first rehearsal block.  A full set of stretching and physical exercise opens the day.  Rehearsals consist of sectionals (Brass, Percussion, Color Guard), marching practice, and full Corps rehearsals.

At Noon the Corps breaks for a lunch of soup, sandwiches, fruit, salad, and sometimes a baked potato bar.  Water and energy drinks always accompany meals.

At 1:00 pm rehearsal resumes.  During this rehearsal the Corps will put their drill to music. They will work over and over again, to polish the show, to make it the best one on the field.

At 5:00 pm they Corps breaks for a dinner of spaghetti, or chicken and rice, or meatloaf, or something else hardy enough to fill the stomachs of the 130 hard working Corps members.

After dinner the Corps returns to the field for 4 more hours of rehearsal.

At 10:00 pm the Corps breaks for the day.  A snack of pudding, or homemade cookies, or sometimes ice cream is served, and at 11:00 pm it’s a well deserved night’s rest and lights out.

We invite everyone in the community to come out and enjoy the Corps as they prepare to compete for the championship title in Indianapolis, Indiana at Drum Corps International Finals August 6.

The Corps housing schedule is:

May 22-29, Central Wyoming Fairgrounds

May 30-31, TBD

June 1-7, Douglas Junior High School

June 8th-20th, stay at Centennial Junior High and Rehears at Frontier Middle School’s north Field.

There will be many opportunities to see the Corps perform publicly, outside of rehearsals.  The first Corps performance will be at the Wyoming Cavalry Football Game, June 5th, where they will perform at halftime.

June 6th is the Annual A Night With the Stars, the annual fundraising event where they Corps will do a stand still performance of the 2009 show for the first time publicly. Troopers members will be on hand to meet, and a few rounds of celebrity Bingo will highlight the night.  Tickets to the event are $75 or $125 per couple, and corporate sponsorships are also available.  The proceeds will help keep the Corps on the road this summer.  On the 7th the Corps will perform at Jackalope Days in Douglas.  June 11th the Troopers will play at the Concert in the Park in Washington Park, and June 13th they will march in the Shrine Bowl Parade, and do a stand still performance after the parade.

June 14th is the biggest show in town, the Thank You Casper show – free to the public, at NCHS Stadium.  You will want to get there early to stake out your spot – it gets crowded – and it will be the first full public performance of the 2009 competitive show, complete with a tailgate party beforehand!  Finally, June 20th the Corps will hit the road on their way to Drum Corps Internationals Finals in Indianapolis.

Wow, that's a lot of work in a small amount of time. Sounds tiring.
